In our recurring series “Cracking the Code” we ask inspiring team members at Gapstars five questions about what they’re working on and how their fulfilling career aspirations.
Today we’re talking to Shanika Wijeyaratna, Senior Quality Assurance Engineer for our partner Temper, to learn more about what it takes to keep codes clean, the beginnings of getting into tech and how the pandemic has impacted her priorities.
Working in Quality Assurance is exciting for me because we are directly involved in the quality of the product and in ensuring it stays relevant to its purpose. As a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, my role is to design and implement tests, debugging and defining corrective actions to ensure the platform runs smoothly and meets its core requirements.
Right now, I’m working on prioritizing and coordinating testing activities including creating well-structured test plans.
Since my childhood, I’ve been fascinated by technology. I’d love to explore and interact with my computer, which was the starting point. I would create presentations, learn new applications, and of course play games. My interest in technology grew and eventually, I persuaded a career in Quality Assurance.
Right now, obviously, everything is changing — the way we live and work is different. But I think it hasn’t impacted my work routines, since we’re used to remote collaboration.
Most of our team is working from home, and everyone has been supportive. We have a set daily routine of communication that’s been in place, even before the pandemic. That has helped us remain near to business as usual.
I’m a travel buff. It’s an interesting country we live in. Sri Lanka has a wide variety of places and things to do for travellers. And I believe I have a lot more to explore.
I believe that every day is a perfect day if you choose to be happy and know that the work your doing is impactful.
